cathy@cathyspowerskating.com
I’m a professional skating development coach with 40 years dedicated to improving the most fundamental part of the game: skating. I founded Power Hour in 1998, and for the past 27 years, I’ve focused exclusively on hockey skating mechanics, teaching more than 50,000 lessons to athletes ranging from youth players to NCAA Division I, PWHL, OHL, AHL, KHL, USA National Team, Olympic Team members, and NHL players.
I currently serve as the Skating Consultant for the NHL San Jose Sharks, and I’m a member coach and presenter for both the NHLCA Female Development Program and The Coaches Site. In 2025, we became a Proud Partner of the AHL San Jose Barracuda, expanding our ability to support youth players throughout the Sharks and Barracuda development systems.
My work has been featured by the Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NHL.com, Sharks Making Waves episode & The Undercurrent podcast, Fin Factor, AHL Barracuda media, and national coaching platforms. I also advise sports-technology companies on skating analytics and product development.

Logan also played for the Colorado Rampage (AAA) and won 2 championships. He went on to play for the Bay State Breakers (USPHL) and currently playing for San Jose State (SJSU). Former Power Hour student, Matt Ng, grew up playing hockey in California for the Jr. Sharks & Jr. Kings. In his freshman year, Matt ranked second at the U14AAA level (33G, 33A) in 46 games. This led him to being drafted and signed by the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Matt proceeded to play for the prestigious Culver Military Academy where he held a leadership role while posting 60 points in two seasons. He went on to play for the Everett Silvertips where he suited up for 64 games and helped his team to a U.S. Division and Western Conference title.
